EVANGELIZE THE UNSAVED
Paul instructed pastors to "do the work of an evangelist" in 2 Timothy 4:5. This requires the pastor to be evangelistic in preaching and teaching, and to be involved in personal witnessing. Social, ethical, and doctrinal preaching has its place, but if a sermon does not include the message of salvation through Christ, it fails to be evangelistic. Personal witnessing is a must for pastors. If they fail to witness, they cannot expect the church to witness, causing a lost a dying world to continue in that state.
Every pastor must share the gospel for two reasons. First, Christ mandated that every Christian be a witness. For a pastor to fail to be evangelistic is a sin, creating a barrier between himself and God and the church and God. Secondly, he must teach the church to witness by example. Teaching the importance of witnessing and methodology of witness is important. Failure to set the example and teaching by doing nullifies these teaches.
