EQUIP THE SAINTS

Ephesians 4:11-12 says: "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ." Since most of the positions listed in verse 11 are included in the role of the overseer (pastor), he must be a perfecter of saints. The word perfection comes from the Greek word "katartismos" meaning to completely furnish or equip.

A pastor's personal study, education, experience, and training make him a person equipped to do the work. He is to share this with others, equipping them to perform their tasks in God's work. He does this by teaching, training, and example. A pastor who fails to equip the church, robs them of the joy of serving God and places the entire responsibility of the church on himself.
